A Baby? Surely Something More Exciting Could Be Done

God knew we needed a savior.  God always knows exactly what we need.  Because of His love for us, He wants to help us with our needs, if only we'll let Him.

What He knew we needed more than anything else was a human version of God.  One that could truly show us the way for a human to please God.  We needed a God-person that could make a permanent stop to the cycle of sin and provide a path to real forgiveness.  We needed grace that wore skin.  We needed God in a form we could approach and relate to.  We needed Jesus.

When God sent Jesus to earth, He could have sent him in any imaginable way.  He might have ridden the crest of a tidal wave that deposited him right in the center of Jerusalem.  There might have been a huge earthquake that split the city in two and out of the gap, in celestial light, rises the new Savior.  It could have been possible for a great fire to show up in the courtyard of the temple where the flames coalesce into the form of a human.  But God did none of these dramatic, awe-inspiring things.

He gave us a tiny, helpless baby.

It is incredible how a baby can melt the hardest heart.  God programmed the human soul to respond to a baby.  God knows what we need.

God didn't give us a man that was unapproachable and left us tongue-tied with awe, He provided us with a baby.  God didn't try to impress us with Hollywood-style, miraculous dramatics, He wanted us to be in awe that God sent His very own son to be one of us.

Jesus was completely human.  As a baby, he cried when he was hungry (that is the only way that babies have to communicate).  As a baby, He needed fed and changed.  He was fully a human baby.

What makes His life different is that He always had a perfect connection with God, His Father.  He taught us about how we should seek to have this type of connection, because God know what we need.  He taught us how to seek God and walk with God, all because God knows what we need.  He taught us that we never have to walk alone or without love.  Thank God that He knows what we need.

That tiny baby that we celebrate this time of year was God's promise to each of us.  Through the baby, He says, “I love you so much that I only want what is the very best for you.  I know what you really need and I'm here to help you achieve that.  Trust me.”

God has shown us through the baby Jesus that we have a God that we can approach.  We don't have to be perfect, we just need to sincerely seek Him.  There is no need for fear or intimidation, who can be afraid of a baby?

The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for you see, I announce to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: because today in the city of David was born to you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10:11)

This year Christmas can just be another holiday that comes and goes or it can be your opportunity to allow the Lord to give you the love and care that He is so eager to give.  Christmas, this year, can be a time of real love, peace and joy.  The best Christmas gift is waiting for you to open it.  I pray that you will discover just how wonderful and meaningful Christmas can really be, by seeking the One the holiday is named after.

I and my family wish you and your loved ones a joy-filled Christmas!
